TLDR Adding Brij 78 to minoxidil microparticles in a certain solution helps them stick to the skin better and prevents clumping.
The study from 2009 found that adding Brij 78, a non-ionic surfactant, to cationic minoxidil (MXD) microparticles suspended in a solution with an anionic surfactant, sodium lauryl ether sulfate (SLES), prevented the microparticles from aggregating and increased their retention on the skin by approximately two-fold. This suggests that Brij 78 can enhance the stability and skin adherence of cationic drug microparticles, which could improve the effectiveness of particulate drugs in rinse-off cosmetic products. The study did not specify the number of subjects involved.
