TLDR Using natural polyphenol cross-linkers like tannic acid and green tea extract in perm treatments improves curling and protects hair.
This study found that using natural polyphenol cross-linkers, specifically tannic acid and green tea extract at a 1% concentration, as intermediate treatment agents during Perm treatment can enhance perming efficiency and hair protection. The experimental groups treated with these agents demonstrated higher perming efficiency and wave maintenance compared to the control group, with green tea extract outperforming tannic acid in both aspects. Additionally, these polyphenols acted as antioxidants, reducing hair damage and improving tensile strength. The hair surface of the treated groups was also smoother and firmer, especially for the green tea extract group, while the control group's hair cuticle surface was rougher. This indicates that natural polyphenol cross-linkers are effective for use in Perm treatments.
