TLDR Finasteride helps induce ovulation in nonresponder PCOS women.
This study investigated the effect of finasteride on inducing ovulation in nonresponder (hyperandrogenic) polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) women. The study involved 60 patients with high serum levels of testosterone, and all had menstrual irregularities and chronic anovulation. The patients were randomly assigned to two treatment groups, with one group receiving ovarian stimulation with recombinant FSH and finasteride, and the other group receiving ovarian stimulation with gonadotropin alone. The results showed that ovulation occurred in 38.2% of patients in the group treated with finasteride, whereas no ovulation was detected in the other group. The study suggests that finasteride may be effective in inducing ovulation in nonresponder (hyperandrogenic) PCOS women.
