TLDR High concentrations of retinoic acid kill hair follicle stem cells, while low concentrations may help treat skin diseases.
The study investigated the effects of different concentrations of all-trans retinoic acid on the growth and survival of hair follicle stem cells derived from Balb/c mice whisker follicles. It was found that concentrations of 10 µM and higher caused apoptotic cell death, with an IC50 value of 14.3 µM. The results suggested that high concentrations of retinoic acid could be used to eliminate redundant hairs, while low concentrations could be beneficial for treating skin diseases.

community DLQ01: A Better "Minoxidil" PGF2a synthetic analogue.

      in Research/Science  3 upvotes 2 weeks ago
DLQ01, a prostaglandin F2α analog, shows promise for hair growth by directly stimulating PGE2/PGF receptors without needing conversion, and can be combined with minoxidil and retinoids like tretinoin for enhanced effectiveness. Minoxidil's efficacy may be reduced by COX-1 inhibitors, but using prostaglandin analogs like Latanoprost or Bimatoprost can help maintain its effectiveness.

A study that outlines the full model for androgenic alopecia (AGA) which links DHT to cellular senescence in dermal papilla cells, and suggests black chokeberry as a source of cyanidin 3-O-arabinoside polyphenol with potential anti-oxidant properties that could reverse this process. The post encourages reaching out to experts in anti-aging and longevity to research treatments involving the polyphenol.

community Haircafe - TOPICAL minoxidil is an anti aging drug

in Minoxidil  246 upvotes 2 months ago
Topical minoxidil may cause skin aging effects like wrinkles and dark circles, possibly due to its alcohol content, while oral finasteride is reported to make users look younger. Switching to oral minoxidil or using moisturizers might help reduce these skin issues.
