TLDR Some Chinese herbs can promote or inhibit hair growth.
The study investigated the effects of 55 Chinese herbal medicines on mouse vibrissa follicles in vitro, focusing on hair growth, bulb morphology, and 3H-TdR incorporation. It found that certain herbs, including Ligustrum lucidum, Angelica dahurica, and Astragalus membranaceus, significantly stimulated hair growth, while others like Psoralea corylifolia and Salvia miltiorrhiza inhibited it. Oleanolic acid, from Ligustrum lucidum, also promoted hair growth. This research was the first to show these effects at the organ culture level, providing insights for developing new treatments for hair disorders.
