TLDR Veterinary Dermatology improved its impact and ranking, expanded content, planned online submissions, and emphasized the need for better-designed clinical trials.
In 2003, Veterinary Dermatology improved its impact factor from 0.952 to 1.068 and rose in rank from 36th to 23rd in the Veterinary Sciences category. The journal increased its number of pages and maintained timely publication, including a supplement for the 5th World Congress of Veterinary Dermatology. The transition to online submissions was planned, and new editorial board members were appointed. The editorial highlighted issues with veterinary clinical trials, such as funding constraints and lack of rigorous protocols, and emphasized the importance of well-designed studies. Two studies on canine Alopecia X were discussed, noting their limitations due to ethical constraints and the rarity of the disease, but they still provided valuable insights despite not establishing a correlation between hair regrowth and hormone levels.
