TLDR Er:YAG laser therapy is not effective for widespread facial eruptive vellus hair cysts due to recurrence and side effects.
Er:YAG laser therapy was used to treat a 30-year-old female with a 15-year history of facial eruptive vellus hair cysts (EVHCs). Although the initial results showed an even skin surface with no residual signs of EVHCs, early recurrence occurred after reepithelialization. The study concluded that while Er:YAG laser therapy might be suitable for distinct EVHC lesions, it was ineffective for densely disseminated facial EVHCs due to the risk of atrophy or scarring from deeper ablation. The literature review indicated that treating EVHCs remains challenging due to frequent recurrences and side effects.
