TLDR Milia, SM, and EVHC may be related conditions, not separate ones.
The study described a family with a mother and her two children exhibiting various forms of pilosebaceous cysts, including milia, steatocystoma multiplex (SM), and eruptive vellus hair cysts (EVHC). Histological examinations revealed that these conditions might be subtypes of multiple pilosebaceous cysts, sharing overlapping features but differing based on the level of the pilosebaceous duct where the cyst originates. This suggested that milia, SM, and EVHC could be related conditions rather than distinct entities, with their clinical manifestations explained by the specific origin within the pilosebaceous duct.
