TLDR Most adult women with PCOS in Port Harcourt, Nigeria, have high levels of bad fats in their blood, especially younger women.
The study, involving 226 adult women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) in Port Harcourt, Nigeria, found a high prevalence of dyslipidemia, with 80.1% of participants affected. The most common lipid abnormalities observed were increased triglycerides (75.7%) and decreased HDL-cholesterol (61.1%), while increased total cholesterol (17.7%) and LDL-cholesterol (14.5%) were less common. Dyslipidemia was particularly frequent in the 20-30 year age group, accounting for 51.9% of cases. The findings indicate that dyslipidemia is prevalent among young adult women with PCOS in the region, and the study recommends that regular dyslipidemia assessments should be a mandatory part of PCOS management to prevent long-term health complications.

A 30-year-old female with PCOS and male pattern baldness is frustrated with her endocrinologist's recommendation of only Spironolactone and minoxidil, feeling that dutasteride, finasteride, and progesterone would be more effective. Other users suggest various online sources for treatments, warn against self-medicating due to potential risks, and recommend seeking a specialized endocrinologist or considering additional treatments like Inositol, Berberine, and dermaneedling.
