TLDR Using dual-frequency ultrasound with microbubbles can potentially improve the delivery of hair growth treatment through the skin and enhance hair growth.
In 2020, a study was conducted using pigskin samples and C57BL/6 mice to test the effectiveness of dual-frequency ultrasound-mediated microbubble cavitation for enhancing the delivery of minoxidil, a common hair growth treatment. The results showed that this method significantly increased the penetration depth of the model drug, Evans blue, especially in the group with 10-fold diluted microbubbles. The in vivo experiments showed a significantly higher concentration of minoxidil in the group treated with dual-frequency ultrasound and 10-fold diluted microbubbles compared to other groups. The study concluded that dual-frequency ultrasound-mediated microbubble cavitation could potentially enhance transdermal minoxidil delivery and hair growth.
