TLDR QMSI effectively maps and quantifies drug distribution in skin tissues.
The study compared Quantitative Mass Spectrometry Imaging (QMSI) and LC-MS/MS techniques for evaluating drug penetration in skin tissues, using 12 drug studies. QMSI, applied to human or mice tissues, provided detailed molecular images that allowed for precise localization and quantification of active compounds in skin structures like hair follicles and sebaceous glands. It showed a 20-25% similarity with LC-MS results and offered insights into compound distribution and concentration without the need for labeling. Additionally, QMSI could identify potential dermis contamination during sample preparation, making it a valuable tool in preclinical and clinical studies.
