TLDR Antituberculosis drugs can cause severe skin reactions, requiring careful diagnosis and treatment.
This case report details a rare overlap of DRESS and Stevens-Johnson syndrome in a 24-year-old woman following antituberculosis treatment, highlighting the importance of early diagnosis and intervention. The patient developed severe symptoms 35 days after starting the medication, necessitating intensive care. Diagnosis tools like RegiSCAR and ALDEN were crucial in confirming the condition and assessing drug causality. Early corticosteroid treatment was vital in managing the immune response and preventing long-term damage. The case underscores the need for safer tuberculosis treatments and personalized therapy to reduce severe adverse reactions. Despite the severity, the patient recovered with a modified treatment regimen but experienced progressive alopecia as a late effect.
