TLDR A doughnut-shaped wart can form after cryotherapy in people with alopecia areata due to immune system issues.
This case report discusses the formation of a doughnut wart, a rare recurrence pattern with central clearance and peripheral regrowth, following cryotherapy for viral warts in a patient with alopecia areata (AA). The report suggests that the systemic immunological alterations associated with AA may influence cutaneous antiviral responses, potentially contributing to atypical wart behavior. The findings highlight the importance of considering autoimmune-related immune imbalances when selecting treatment approaches to reduce recurrence risk in patients with immune-mediated skin conditions.
