TLDR Lowest effective minoxidil concentration is 1%, but 2% works better for male pattern baldness.
This study aimed to determine the lowest effective concentration of topical minoxidil for male pattern baldness. The study found that 1% topical minoxidil was the lowest effective concentration, while 2% topical minoxidil had more impressive responses. The study also found that topical minoxidil limited to 1 ml twice daily in concentrations to 2% produced no significant side effects in this healthy male population. The study concluded that 2% topical minoxidil will probably remain the preferred treatment for male pattern baldness until further studies comparing its efficacy to 1% topical minoxidil over a longer time period are performed.
