TLDR Long-term healthy eating lowers testosterone and improves health in women with suspected PCOS.
The study on 154 women with suspected PCOS highlights the importance of sustained dietary modifications in managing symptoms and improving metabolic and hormonal parameters. Women who reduced their intake of red meat, sweets, and alcohol for more than 6 months showed significant improvements in BMI, hormone levels, and metabolic markers compared to those who made recent changes. The study found no significant benefits from transitioning to a low-glycemic index diet or calorie counting alone, emphasizing the need for specific dietary goals and long-term adherence. The findings suggest healthcare providers should focus on supporting long-term dietary changes to improve PCOS-related health outcomes.
