New to Minoxidil? There is a guide in the encyclopedia. Read the guide → Studysummary This study found that a 3:2 combination of pandan leaf and mother-in-law's tongue extracts in hair tonic showed similar hair growth activity as 5% minoxidil after three weeks. Our plain-language summary of this paper — not a Tressless recommendation.
The study aimed to develop a hair tonic using a combination of ethanol extracts from pandan leaves (Pandanus amaryllifolius Roxb) and snake plant leaves (Sansevieria trifasciata Prain). The extracts were combined in ratios of 1:1, 2:3, and 3:2, with the 3:2 ratio showing the best hair growth activity. This formulation was then compared to a hair tonic base, a normal control, and 5% minoxidil. Results indicated that the 3:2 extract tonic had similar hair growth activity to the positive control by weeks 3 and 4. Stability tests over 3 months at various temperatures and acute dermal irritation tests showed very mild irritation indices. Microbial contamination tests met cosmetic standards with colony counts <10^5.
