TLDR Nearly half of the studied men with long COVID had low testosterone, including younger men.
A retrospective analysis of 39 male patients with post COVID-19 condition revealed that 48.7% met the criteria for late-onset hypogonadism (LOH), a condition characterized by low testosterone levels. Symptoms such as fatigue, anxiety, cough, and hair loss were more common in the LOH group. The study also found a weak negative correlation between age and serum free testosterone (FT) level, suggesting that even young male patients with post COVID-19 condition can develop LOH. The researchers concluded that measuring serum FT could be useful in identifying LOH in patients with long COVID. However, the study was limited by its retrospective nature, small sample size, and potential selection bias.
