TLDR Deslorelin can help regrow hair in most intact male dogs with alopecia.
The study evaluated the efficacy of a deslorelin implant in treating hair cycle arrest (alopecia X) in dogs. Sixteen intact male dogs and four neutered female dogs were treated with a 4.7 mg deslorelin implant. Hair regrowth was observed in 75% (12 of 16) of the intact male dogs within 3 months, while no hair regrowth occurred in the neutered female dogs. The overall response rate to the therapy was 60%, and no adverse effects were reported. The authors concluded that deslorelin could be a viable treatment option for intact male dogs with idiopathic hair cycle arrest, offering an alternative to current therapies and castration.
