TLDR Fluconazole-loaded hair gel may offer a longer-lasting dandruff treatment.
The study focused on designing and evaluating a fluconazole-loaded antidandruff hair gel. Dandruff, affecting nearly 50% of the population, is caused by increased fungal and bacterial growth on the scalp, leading to flaking and discomfort. Traditional treatments like shampoos and lotions often fail to provide long-lasting effects and prevent recurrence. The research aimed to formulate a hair gel using fluconazole, an imidazole derivative effective against fungal infections, combined with various polymers such as carbopol 940 and polyvinyl pyrrolidone. The gel was intended to offer prolonged contact with the scalp, potentially improving treatment efficacy for dandruff and seborrheic dermatitis.
