TLDR Dermoscopy is useful for identifying skin lesions in dogs, with specific features distinguishing infundibular keratinising acanthomas from follicular cysts.
This study investigated the dermoscopic features of infundibular keratinising acanthomas (IKAs) and follicular cysts in dogs, using 35 lesions from 10 dogs. The study found that white structureless areas were common in both IKAs (92%) and follicular cysts (66%). Surface keratin, blood spots, and four-dot clods were unique to IKAs, while white lines appeared in both IKAs and cysts. Blood vessels were more frequently observed in IKAs. The study demonstrated near-perfect interobserver agreement for surface keratin and good agreement for other dermoscopic features, highlighting dermoscopy as a valuable tool for assessing these skin lesions in dogs.
