TLDR Preventive measures and education can reduce common skin disorders in children.
This study analyzed 4025 pediatric patients aged 0-16 years at a dermatology clinic in Ankara in 2011, identifying 143 different skin diseases. The most common conditions were contact dermatitis (15.6%), warts (8.7%), and atopic dermatitis (7.8%). Girls were more prone to acne vulgaris, keratosis pilaris, telogen effluvium, and xerosis, while boys had higher rates of atopic dermatitis, pityriasis alba, urticaria, and alopecia areata. The highest presentation rate was in the 6-11 years age group (32.7%). Seasonal variations were noted, with different conditions peaking in different seasons. The study concluded that preventive measures and educational programs could reduce the prevalence of these skin disorders, and further epidemiological studies are needed.
