TLDR Skin diseases in Turkish children vary by age and gender, with infections, eczema, acne, and allergies most common.
The study conducted in the Erzincan region of Turkey included 10,115 children aged 0-16 years and aimed to assess the prevalence and distribution of skin diseases by age and gender. It was found that 53.14% of the patients were female and 46.86% were male. The most common skin conditions were infectious diseases (24.62%), eczema (21.95%), acne & follicular diseases (18.45%), and allergic skin diseases (11.02%), with acne vulgaris (17.82%), warts (10.03%), and irritant contact dermatitis (9.42%) being the most prevalent. The study observed that the most frequent skin diseases varied with age: contact dermatitis in the 0-5 years age groups, warts in the 6-11 years age group, and acne vulgaris in the 12-16 years age group. The conclusion emphasized the potential for reducing common diseases through preventive health care and education, and the importance of epidemiological studies for establishing health care policies and developing education programs.
