Frequency of Childhood Dermatological Diseases: An Analysis of 8551 Cases

    Image of study
TLDR Acne was the most common skin problem in kids, with other conditions like warts and eczema also frequent, varying by age and gender.
The study analyzed 8,551 pediatric patients under 17 years old at a Turkish hospital in 2013, finding that acne vulgaris was the most common dermatological condition, affecting 18.6% of patients, with warts, atopic dermatitis, contact dermatitis, and seborrheic dermatitis also prevalent. The frequency of these conditions varied by age and gender, with contact dermatitis most common in infants, warts in pre-school and school-aged children, acne vulgaris in adolescents, and a gender difference showing acne more common in females and warts in males. These findings were consistent with previous retrospective studies in Turkey but differed from prospective and epidemiological studies, underscoring the need for regional comparisons in pediatric dermatology research.
