TLDR Individualized treatments may help manage Dercum's disease symptoms.
This study investigates therapeutic approaches for Dercum Disease (DD), a rare condition with no standardized treatment, through a single-center case series involving 5 female patients aged 44-65. The research evaluated treatments such as methotrexate, infliximab, GLP-1 receptor agonists (semaglutide and tirzepatide), and surgical interventions like lipectomy and liposuction. Results showed variable improvements in pain and quality of life, with some patients experiencing significant benefits, particularly with GLP-1 RAs aiding in weight reduction and pain relief. However, responses were inconsistent, and surgical options often led to recurrence. Adverse events were generally manageable. The study underscores the need for individualized treatment strategies and further research to establish effective long-term management for DD.
