Serum Cystatin C Levels in Adolescent Females: A Comparative Study Between PCOS and Non-PCOS Groups

Mohamed Ibrahim, I Masryia Rashad Hassein
TLDR Adolescent females with PCOS have higher serum cystatin C levels, indicating potential metabolic and cardiovascular issues.
This study investigated serum cystatin C levels in adolescent females with and without Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) to assess its potential as a marker for metabolic and cardiovascular issues. Conducted at Tikrit Teaching Hospital, the study included 60 adolescents with PCOS and 60 healthy controls. Results showed that those with PCOS had significantly higher BMI, blood pressure, hirsutism, menstrual irregularities, and acne. Serum cystatin C levels were elevated in the PCOS group, suggesting its potential as a predictive marker for metabolic and cardiovascular disturbances in these individuals.
