Comparison of Cyclosporine and Betamethasone Minipulse Therapy in Management of Alopecia Areata
TLDR Oral cyclosporine works better than betamethasone minipulse therapy for treating Alopecia Areata.
In 2019, a study was conducted on 56 cases of Alopecia Areata (AA), an autoimmune condition causing non-scarring hair loss, to compare the effectiveness of cyclosporine and betamethasone minipulse therapy. The patients were divided into two groups of 28 each, with Group I receiving oral cyclosporine and Group II receiving betamethasone minipulse therapy. The results showed that 8 cases in Group I and 4 in Group II had an excellent response, 12 in Group I and 6 in Group II had a good response, 5 in Group I and 12 in Group II had a fair response, and 3 in Group I and 6 in Group II had a poor response. The study concluded that oral cyclosporine was more effective than betamethasone minipulse therapy in treating AA.
