TLDR A woman developed skin lesions after PRP injections, possibly linked to COVID-19 infection and vaccination.
This case report describes a 41-year-old Lebanese woman who developed cutaneous sarcoidal lesions at the sites of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injections following a COVID-19 infection and vaccination. Despite having no previous side effects from PRP treatments, she developed erythematous papules 8 weeks after her latest session. A biopsy confirmed nonnecrotizing granulomas consistent with cutaneous sarcoidosis. The patient had a history of COVID-19 infection and vaccination, which may have triggered an abnormal immune response leading to the sarcoidal reactions. Treatment with topical pimecrolimus, oral desloratadine, betamethasone, and later hydroxychloroquine led to partial resolution of the lesions. This case highlights a potential link between PRP injections and cutaneous sarcoidosis in the context of COVID-19, suggesting that the immune response to the injected material may play a role.
