TLDR Half of the people with alcohol dependency in the study had liver disease and skin issues like seborrheic dermatitis, which are important signs of alcohol abuse.
The study, conducted on 205 cases of individuals diagnosed with alcohol dependency, aimed to assess the various cutaneous (skin-related) manifestations of alcohol dependence. The study found that 50.25% of the cases had alcoholic liver disease. The severity of alcohol dependence varied, with 45.23% (90 individuals) mildly dependent, 41.7% (83 individuals) moderately dependent, and 13.07% (26 individuals) severely dependent on alcohol. Commonly encountered skin conditions included seborrheic dermatitis, urticaria, and hyperhidrosis. The study concluded that cutaneous manifestations are significant indicators of underlying alcohol dependency, and awareness of these signs is crucial for dermatologists to identify problems of alcohol abuse.
