TLDR More frequent and severe skin problems are linked to higher daily alcohol consumption.
The study evaluated skin changes in 98 patients with alcohol dependence, categorized as mild (52.04%), moderate (39.80%), and severe (8.16%), with an average SADQ score of 24.91 and an average drinking duration of 19.8 years. Hair dermatoses were the most common, followed by nutritional (10.20%) and eczematous dermatoses (7.14%). The findings suggest that more frequent and severe skin problems are linked to higher daily alcohol consumption, but not necessarily to the duration or severity of the habit. Early identification of systemic disorders through skin symptoms in alcohol-dependent patients is crucial to prevent severe consequences like irreversible liver damage.
