TLDR CTLA4 gene variants are not linked to alopecia areata in Monterrey's Mexican population.
The study concluded that the CTLA4 gene variants rs231775 and rs3087243 were not associated with an increased risk of alopecia areata (AA) in a Mexican population from Monterrey. Involving 50 AA patients and 100 healthy controls, the research found no significant differences in allele or genotype frequencies between the groups. Despite previous studies suggesting a link between these variants and autoimmune diseases, this study did not find such an association in this specific population. The study highlighted the need for further research to identify other genetic factors contributing to AA.
