TLDR TCA injections are more effective and safer than cryotherapy for treating alopecia areata.
The study compared the efficacy and safety of superficial cryotherapy and intralesional corticosteroids (triamcinolone acetonide, TCA) in treating patchy alopecia areata in 20 patients. Each patient received either cryotherapy twice monthly or TCA injections once monthly for 3 months. Results showed that TCA treatment led to a significantly higher response rate and fewer side effects compared to cryotherapy. Therefore, TCA is more effective and tolerable than cryotherapy for treating alopecia areata.
