TLDR Laryngectomy patients need special protection and care during COVID-19 to prevent infection.
The study reviewed the management of laryngectomy patients during the COVID-19 pandemic, highlighting their unique vulnerability due to the separation of the upper and lower respiratory tract. It emphasized the importance of providing these patients with protective equipment to reduce their risk of infection, which could be deadly. The study also noted that infected laryngectomy patients could pose a risk to medical personnel, necessitating special protective measures. Non-essential procedures, such as prosthesis replacement and endoscopic manipulations, were advised to be postponed until the epidemiological situation normalized, with vital operations conducted under strict precautions.
