TLDR Making platelet-rich plasma gel is cheap, safe, and easy when done by trained professionals.
The 2018 study "Production cost of autologous platelet rich plasma gel" analyzed the cost-effectiveness of producing autologous platelet-rich plasma (PRP) gel, a substance used in various medical treatments including hair loss. The study involved 18 participants and was conducted in a university hospital in Rio de Janeiro. The cost of producing PRP gel was found to be $4.88 per session, or $29.31 ± 1.63 for six sessions, with the majority of the cost (85.8%) attributed to human resources. The procedure took approximately 22 minutes to complete. The study concluded that PRP gel production is a low-cost, safe, and accessible treatment option when performed by trained professionals in an appropriate setting.
