TLDR Platelet-rich plasma gel helps heal chronic wounds better than before treatment.
This study analyzed data from a wound care registry to evaluate the effectiveness of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) gel (AutoloGel™) on chronic wound healing. From 285 chronic wounds, 46 had both run-in and post-treatment data. The study found statistically significant improvements in wound area and depth after PRP treatment compared to the run-in period. Specifically, 28% of wound area and 39% of wound depth improved post-treatment, compared to 15% and 11% during the run-in, respectively. These results suggested that PRP therapy could effectively promote healing in previously non-responsive wounds, demonstrating that registry data could serve as a valuable complementary evidence source to randomized controlled trials.
