TLDR A female Rottweiler had a rare genetic condition causing mostly hairless skin.
The document reported a case of generalized congenital hypotrichosis in a female Rottweiler, marking only the second instance of this genodermatosis in a female dog. The dog exhibited a predominantly hairless condition, with symmetric tufts of hair on the head, dorsal midline, and umbilical region. Skin biopsies mostly showed a complete lack of epidermal appendages, indicating a failure in follicular development. Occasionally, rudimentary follicular structures were observed, suggesting possible prior development followed by involution. According to Dr. Carol Foil's classification for ectodermal dysplasia, the dog was classified as having a 1–4 defect in congenital hypotrichosis.
