Congenital Atrichia With Papular Lesions: A Rare Cause of Irreversible Childhood Alopecia

Tasleem Arif, Mohammad Adil, Syed Suhail Amin
TLDR Congenital atrichia with papular lesions causes permanent hair loss in children.
Congenital atrichia with papular lesions (APL) was identified as a rare cause of irreversible childhood alopecia in a 9-year-old boy who exhibited sparse body hair and a history of hair loss shortly after birth. The presence of multiple skin-colored papules on the scalp and biopsy results showing keratinous cysts and absence of hair follicles confirmed the diagnosis. Vitamin D-dependent rickets was ruled out, emphasizing congenital APL as a distinct cause of total alopecia.
