TLDR Calorie restriction boosts stem cell activity, improving tissue regeneration and lifespan.
Calorie restriction (CR) was found to prolong lifespan and reduce age-related pathologies by enhancing stem cell potency across various tissues. In skeletal muscle, CR acted as an anti-inflammatory agent, increasing satellite cells for better regeneration. In the intestinal epithelium, CR suppressed mTORC1 signaling in Paneth cells, promoting stem cell self-renewal. In haematopoiesis, CR maintained or improved haematopoietic stem cell function, depending on genetic variations. Notably, in skin and hair follicles, CR increased epidermal thickness, hair growth, and retention by enhancing stem cell activity. Overall, CR improved tissue regeneration by promoting stem cell proliferation and self-renewal.

community How much does diet affect hair loss?

The conversation suggests that changing diet and lifestyle has little to no effect on male pattern baldness (MPB), which is largely determined by genetics. Some individuals noted personal improvements in hair condition with healthier diets, but the consensus is that diet alone cannot prevent or reverse MPB.
