TLDR A young woman recovered well from rare simultaneous Hepatitis B and autoimmune hepatitis after treatment.
A 25-year-old female presented with acute liver failure due to concurrent Hepatitis B and autoimmune hepatitis, a rare occurrence. Symptoms included fatigue, somnolence, abdominal distention, jaundice, melena, and increased hair loss leading to alopecia. Laboratory tests confirmed liver failure with elevated bilirubin, GGT, INR, prothrombin time, IgG levels, and the presence of specific antibodies and HBV markers. Initial treatment involved steroids, azathioprine, vitamin K, a low-protein diet, and lactulose enemas, later modified to include tenofovir disoproxil fumarate after molecular testing. The patient was discharged in good condition after one month, with continued medication, and showed no clinical deterioration in follow-ups.
