TLDR Compounded topical preparations should be used with caution for severe psoriasis and generally come after systemic treatments.
In 2018, the article examined the role of compounded topical preparations (CTP) in treating severe psoriasis, a method that has been largely replaced by systemic treatments. It included case reports of two patients with severe psoriasis who used CTPs with various active ingredients, but both required systemic treatments for remission. The article emphasized the need for evidence-based, regulated, and standardized use of CTPs, highlighting concerns about their stability, safety, and efficacy. The authors called for strict compounding protocols and stability evaluations, and for physicians to prioritize systemic treatments over topical preparations when appropriate.
