TLDR Non-resorbable fillers cause more long-term issues than resorbable fillers.
This study compares complications from non-resorbable (permanent) and resorbable fillers, focusing on data from 316 patients at the Erasmus Medical Centre in 2022. The findings indicate a decrease in complications from non-resorbable fillers, from 77.6% in 2011-2016 to 50.6% in 2022, while complications from resorbable hyaluronic acid fillers have increased. Non-resorbable fillers, despite being banned in the Netherlands since 2015, still cause significant issues such as late-onset inflammation and long-term irreversible complications, often due to treatments performed outside the country. The study highlights the need for more research to better understand and raise awareness of the risks associated with non-resorbable fillers.
