TLDR Platelet-rich plasma combined with other treatments improves acne scars better than those treatments alone.
A meta-analysis conducted in 2020 examined the efficacy of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) treatment in combination with other therapies for post-acne atrophic scars. The analysis included 11 studies, six of which were randomized controlled trials and three were non-randomized controlled trials, involving a total of 345 patients. The results showed that PRP combination treatment with a dermaroller or microneedling, or with a fractional CO2 laser, was more effective in improving atrophic post-acne scars than therapy without PRP. Patients also reported higher satisfaction with the combination treatment. However, the study noted that further research was needed to determine which types of PRP combination therapies provide the best results.
