TLDR Trichoscopy is useful for early detection and monitoring of female pattern hair loss.
The study conducted on 100 females aged 18 and above with female pattern hair loss (FPHL) at a rural tertiary care hospital highlights the utility of trichoscopy in diagnosing and predicting FPHL. The most common hair loss pattern observed was Sinclair grade II, and frequent dermoscopic findings included hair diameter diversity and yellow dots. Advanced stages showed single hair follicular units and focal atrichia, while early stages exhibited BPPS. The study underscores the importance of trichoscopy in detecting early follicular changes before visible hair loss, advocating for regular clinical and trichoscopic follow-ups to monitor disease progression and treatment response.

Scalp biopsies are crucial for diagnosing hair loss conditions like Diffuse Unpatterned Alopecia (DUPA) and retrograde hair loss, as treatments like finasteride and dutasteride may not be effective if other conditions are present. Combining PPAR-GAMMA agonists with retinoids could improve treatments for conditions like Lichen Planopilaris.

Increased Malassezia and Cutibacterium in the scalp microbiome are linked to higher sebum production and inflammation in androgenetic alopecia (AGA). Treatments include ciclopirox shampoo, benzoyl peroxide shampoo, clobetasol propionate, calcipotriol, minoxidil, finasteride, and dutasteride.

The user has been using finasteride, minoxidil, and nizoral for hair loss but hasn't seen regrowth, only maintenance. They are considering switching to dutasteride, which is believed to be more effective, but are concerned about potential side effects.

A 26-year-old with extreme male pattern baldness saw hair regrowth after 6 months using Minoxidil, Finasteride, microneedling, Nizoral, a vitamin complex, biotin, and a shampoo with baicapil. Continuation of treatment is necessary to maintain results; stopping may lead to hair loss, making a hair transplant a potential future option.

A user in France is frustrated because three dermatologists refused to prescribe finasteride for their hair loss, suggesting it's not androgenetic alopecia (AGA) and offering expensive vitamin treatments instead. Other users suggest buying hair loss treatments like minoxidil and finasteride from various online pharmacies and considering a gender-affirming care physician for more understanding treatment options.
