TLDR Older adults most often had skin infections and eczema at a hospital in Nepal.
The study, conducted three years ago, aimed to identify the prevalence and clinical characteristics of geriatric dermatoses in a multi-specialty hospital in Nepal. The study included 235 patients over 60 years old out of a total of 3292 patients (7.13%). A total of 246 diagnoses were made, with a male predominance of 53.19%. The most common diagnosis was skin infection and infestation (38.61%), followed by eczema or dermatitis (18.69%) and papulo-squamous disease (11.78%). Other common conditions included urticaria, photodermatoses, senile xerosis, and miliaria. No cases of skin malignancy were found. The study concluded that cutaneous infections and infestations were the most common dermatoses, followed by eczema/dermatitis, with fungal infection, allergic contact dermatitis, and psoriasis also being common.
