TLDR Chronic cutaneous lupus erythematosus should be considered when acne treatments don't work.
This document described a case of chronic cutaneous lupus erythematosus (CCLE) presenting as atypical acneiform and comedonal lesions in a 32-year-old woman. The patient had been treated unsuccessfully for acne before a biopsy confirmed CCLE. Treatment with prednisone and chloroquine diphosphate led to significant improvement. A literature review identified nine other cases of acneiform lupus erythematosus, highlighting the rarity and diagnostic challenge of this presentation. The study emphasized the importance of considering CCLE in cases of treatment-resistant acneiform lesions, particularly when localized and itchy.
