TLDR Decursin shows promise for treating cancer, neuroprotection, inflammation, and hair loss.
Decursin, a compound from Angelica gigas Nakai, shows significant therapeutic potential across various domains, including cancer treatment, neuroprotection, anti-inflammatory effects, and hair loss prevention. It induces apoptosis in cancer cells, enhances cognitive function, and protects against neurotoxicity and oxidative stress. Decursin also demonstrates anti-melanogenic properties, reduces adipogenesis, and promotes hair growth, making it a candidate for treating alopecia. Pharmacokinetic studies reveal good stability and bioavailability, though it undergoes substantial hepatic metabolism. Toxicity studies indicate it is non-toxic at high doses. Despite challenges in solubility and standardization, decursin's diverse pharmacological activities make it a promising candidate for drug development.
