TLDR 2-iminothiorane hydrochloride improves hair waving permanence without damage.
The study investigated the chemical modification of keratin fibers in human hair using 2-iminothiorane hydrochloride (2-IT) to improve hair properties. The new permanent hair-setting process introduced new disulfide (–SS–) groups into the hair, resulting in a significant improvement in waving permanence (66%) compared to the conventional process (48%). FT-Raman spectroscopy confirmed the creation of new –SS– groups without causing hair damage. The findings demonstrated that 2-IT effectively enhanced the permanent hair-setting process.
