TLDR There's no clear link between female pattern hair loss and thickness of the carotid artery, but those with hair loss may have thicker arteries. More research is needed.
This study aimed to investigate the relationship between androgenetic alopecia (AGA) and carotid artery intima media thickness (CIMT) as a marker for early diagnosis of atherosclerosis in women. Fifty-four women, 27 with AGA and 27 healthy controls, were included in the study. The results showed that there was no statistically significant association between AGA and CIMT. However, an increase in CIMT was observed in patients with AGA. The study suggests that further research with larger sample sizes is needed to evaluate CIMT as a predictor for cardiovascular disease in AGA patients.
