TLDR Dutasteride is as safe for the heart as finasteride.
In a population-based cohort study of 72,622 men aged 66 or older, researchers investigated the cardiovascular safety of dutasteride compared to finasteride. The study found no significant difference in the risk of heart failure, acute myocardial infarction, or stroke between patients treated with dutasteride and those treated with finasteride. The adjusted hazard ratios were 0.98 for heart failure, 0.94 for acute myocardial infarction, and 1.03 for stroke, indicating that dutasteride did not increase the risk of cardiovascular events relative to finasteride.
