TLDR Patients with alopecia areata might have a lower risk of stroke and possibly heart attack.
The study conducted a propensity-matched retrospective analysis of 1377 patients with alopecia areata (AA) and 4131 controls to assess the risk of acute myocardial infarction (AMI) and ischemic stroke. Results indicated that patients with AA had decreased odds of developing stroke (odds ratio 0.39) and a trend toward a decreased risk of AMI (odds ratio 0.91), though the latter was not statistically significant. The study concluded that patients with AA might have a lower risk for these cardiovascular events, but further research is needed to confirm these findings and understand the underlying mechanisms.
