Cannabinoid Use for Symptom Management in Epidermolysis Bullosa

    Lynna Yang, Amy S. Paller
TLDR Cannabinoids may help manage epidermolysis bullosa symptoms, but more research is needed.
This study surveyed 224 patients with epidermolysis bullosa (EB) regarding their use of cannabinoids for symptom management. Of the respondents, 44% had tried cannabinoid-based therapies, with ingestion, topical application, and inhalation being the most common methods. Among users, 28% reported better symptom relief compared to traditional treatments, with significant improvements in pain, overall well-being, sleep, and itch. Despite the benefits, concerns about cost, stigma, and access were prevalent. Among non-users, 77% were likely to try cannabinoids in the future, though they had concerns about effectiveness, safety, and cost. The study highlights the potential of cannabinoids in managing EB symptoms but emphasizes the need for further research to validate these findings and develop standardized treatments.

Cannabis and THC may have mixed effects on hair, with some studies suggesting potential negative impacts on hair growth in isolated hair follicles, but these results are hard to apply to living humans. Treatments like minoxidil and finasteride are commonly used for hair loss, and the effects of cannabis might be neutral or vary based on individual factors.

The original poster uses Propecia (finasteride) and Rogaine (minoxidil) for treatment and is considering quitting marijuana to see if it affects hair health.
